What is women’s wellness?

Women’s wellness focuses on the unique needs of women in different stages of life. Starting in adolescence, girls should have routine wellness checks that continue into adulthood to protect their reproductive and sexual health.

At Panhandle Obstetrics and Gynecology, the experienced gynecologists can provide resources to help women navigate changes in their health as they mature. They offer a variety of services that support women’s long-term wellness and health.

What women’s wellness services are available?

The women’s wellness services at Panhandle Obstetrics and Gynecology include:

• Pap smears
• Breast exams
• 3D mammograms
• Menopause health

The providers can also address a variety of reproductive and sexual health issues that affect women, including abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, and pain during sex.

You can receive birth control counseling to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The practice offers popular birth control options, including the Mirena® intrauterine device (IUD) and Nexplanon® birth control implants.

What can I expect during my initial women’s wellness appointment?

During your initial women’s wellness appointment at Panhandle Obstetrics and Gynecology, the physicians spend time reviewing your personal and family medical histories. They also discuss any symptoms you’re experiencing that affect your physical, reproductive, or mental health.

Your wellness exam includes a physical and a pelvic exam. During a pelvic exam, the providers assess the health of your vagina and reproductive organs to identify abnormalities, such as cysts or fibroids. They can also collect a sample of cells from your cervix during a Pap smear to test for cell changes that increase your risk for cancer.

The physicians provide in-office breast exams and mammograms to check for signs of breast cancer.

If you need birth control, the team can help you choose the right method to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
